Ted Perkins

Ted Perkins is an addiction recovery advocate and entrepreneur who has devoted his life to helping people recover from alcohol/drug addiction and other maladaptive behaviors. In successful long-term recovery from alcohol himself, Perkins has facilitated a SMART Recovery meeting in Los Angeles for the last 6 years, and hosted a popular YouTube recovery series seen by over 1.5 million viewers across seven continents.

Perkins represents a unique intersection between deep knowledge about addiction and recovery, and the motion picture industry. Prior to working in the recovery world he was a studio executive at Warner Bros and Universal, and was a successful working film and TV writer. He has lectured extensively around the world teaching students everywhere how to create stories and screenplays that can appeal to mass audiences.

Realizing that stories have transformative power, Perkins founded Recover Movie Meetups, a company that provides a curriculum and training program designed to help treatment centers and recovery organizations use Hollywood movies to facilitate discussions about addiction and recovery. The program leverages the power of storytelling and relatable characters to spark meaningful conversations, promote empathy, and support therapeutic outcomes in group settings.

Recovery Movie Meetups has been licensed to hundreds of clients around the U.S. and Canada. It offers specialized programs for Teens & Young Adults, Recovery High Schools, Collegiate Recovery Programs, Correctional Institutions and offers its entire curriculum in Spanish. In February 2025 the company unveiled the Mental Health & Co-Occurring Disorders Edition of its program and is being adopted in dozens of mental health treatment facilities around the country.
